The Thavertino Silver originated in Rome and was found in large quantities near Ponte Lucano, where several quarries are still in operation. Most churches in the Renaissance and Baroque periods were covered with cave stones and decorated with Travertino Silver. Bernini also used it in sculpture (Triton fountain).
